Current status: Affiliate links are currently off. Registration links go straight to Namecheap.
How it works
When affiliate links are on, the "Register" buttons on this site, and the links that the tld CLI, API and Claude Code plugin produce, go through Namecheap's affiliate program. If you register a domain after clicking one, the maintainer may earn a commission. It costs you nothing extra: you pay Namecheap's normal price.
Whenever affiliate links are shown, tld displays this notice next to them:
Registration links are Namecheap affiliate links; the maintainer may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Disable with --no-affiliate or TLD_AFFILIATE_URL=off.
What it never does
- It never changes which domains are shown, how they are scored, or the order they are ranked in. The test suite checks that results are identical with and without affiliate links, apart from the links themselves.
- It never hides cheaper options, steers you toward premium names, or pre-opens links.
- It never uses redirects or link shorteners: the link goes straight to Namecheap's affiliate network and on to the domain's page.
How to turn it off
- On this site: search for the domain on namecheap.com directly instead of using the button.
- CLI, one command:
tld check myname --no-affiliate - CLI, a shell or CI job:
export TLD_AFFILIATE_URL=off - CLI, permanently:
tld config --affiliate off(undo withtld config --affiliate default)
The CLI builds links locally, so these switches also strip affiliate links from results that come from the hosted API.
Why
The hosted API, its static IP and this site cost money to run. Commissions help keep them free and rate limits generous. tld is independent and not affiliated with or endorsed by Namecheap.
